FLAS Fellowships

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship

The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship provides undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students with financial support to develop fluency in less commonly taught languages (LCTLs) and expertise in the regions in which these languages are spoken.

Based on funding from the U.S. Department of Education, four National Resource Centers of the University of Washington will offer Academic Year and Summer FLAS Fellowships in the following languages:

Bangla, Burmese, Chinese, Haida*, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Nuu-chah-nulth*, Persian, Tagalog, Thai, Urdu, Vietnamese, Graduate students only: French (intermediate or advanced only). *Other Indigenous languages spoken in Canada also possible (check with Canadian Studies Center).
