About

George Alagiah Johnson was born in Evanston, Illinois and grew up in Naples, Florida. He received his B.A. in History from the University of Florida, during which he interned for an energy efficiency startup in San Francisco, worked at a London-based African cultural consultancy during the 2012 Summer Olympics, and studied abroad in Sevilla, Spain for a year. Following graduation from UF, George worked at a nonprofit cleantech venture group in Chicago for over 4 years. He then served with Peace Corps Panama as an Environmental Conservation Volunteer before joining AmeriCorps, the government agency devoted to national service, where he has worked since August 2020. A Sri Lankan-American with dual citizenship between the United States and United Kingdom, George has been fortunate to travel to 30 countries and 43 states, which has given him a cultured worldview. He’s eager to enhance his personal and professional development through UW’s MAIS program.
