CGS recently spoke with Samira Shirazy, a 2024-2025 Migdal Fellow studying Human Centered Design & Engineering who is using the $1,200 scholarship to support project-based STEM classes for middle and high school students.

Updated M.A. in International Studies Student Profiles
This past fall, the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies welcomed 18 new students to the M.A. in International Studies (MAIS) program. This is the largest MAIS cohort in recent years, with students studying international topics ranging from the political economy of Latin America to online discourses around post-Soviet countries.

Trump in the World 2.0 Lecture Series
From April 7 to June 2, the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies will present a series of free weekly online talks exploring global perspectives on the second Trump administration.
The series, titled “Trump in the World 2.0”, is co-sponsored by the UW Office of Global Affairs and features faculty and guest speakers exploring how different regions and global issues are affected by the policies of the Trump administration.

Community College Master Teacher Institute (CCMTI) 2025 – Global Sports: Culture, Society, and Economy
The 2025 Community College Master Teacher Institute will be held July 24-25 on the University of Washington campus. This year’s event is titled “Global Sports: Culture, Society, and Economy” and will explore how sports around the world impact peoples and nations around the world. This two-day workshop is open to community college instructors who teach these themes or who would like to introduce them to their classrooms.

Center for Global Studies Partners with Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) 2025
The 51st annual Seattle International Film Festival is just around the corner, running May 15-25 at venues across Seattle. This year’s festival theme is “Escape to the Reel World” and will feature films from over 80 countries. The Center for Global Studies is pleased to partner once again with SIFF, with details to be posted here.
