Call for Proposals

The Call for Proposals is open for the annual Global Studies Virtual Symposium, a virtual speaker series connecting community college global studies scholars and educators across campuses. The symposium offers an engaging teaching and learning forum for sharing best practices, ideas, and resources with colleagues. Those accepted will receive a stipend.

Symposium Dates 

To be determined in coordination with accepted speakers for spring (January- May 2025) or fall (September- November 2025).

Location: Virtual Symposium (Zoom)

Your participation helps make this conference a collaborative and engaging experience, and all accepted proposals that are presented during the symposium will receive a stipend!

Submit a proposal by following three simple steps:

  • Submit a proposal: Click the link to submit a proposal for a 45-minute live Zoom session. You will need the following: presentation title, brief description, expected outcomes, and contact information.
  • Get notification: We welcome the submission of proposal(s) for the 2024-2025 Global Studies Virtual Symposium on a rolling basis with a priority deadline of November 30th. (We are in love with global education!)
  • Registration is required to participate in each of these FREE Global Studies Virtual Symposium and receive the Zoom link for the event.

We are looking for proposals addressing current issues around global studies in the community college curriculum. What are you doing to bring local to global and global to local? How are you connecting AI to Global Studies? What are you doing on your campus to close inequality gaps as it relates to global studies?

Innovative Teaching & Learning:

(45 minutes for presentation and questions/conversation) – share curriculum design or teaching and assessing strategies

  • AI used to enhance global education

  • Projects partnered with businesses, organizations, K12, or the university

  • Virtual study abroad projects (such as COIL)

  • Faculty professional development opportunities

  • Collaborations with CTL, libraries, writing centers, and IT for global projects

  • Co-Authorship: Aiding New Perspectives

  • Utilizing the diversity in your classroom to enhance global education

  • Using global simulations, games, or role-playing in the classroom

  • Pedagogy: Incorporation of Nonwestern voices

  • Teaching using film, memoir, music, or other media

  • Using your own international/intercultural experiences in the classroom

  • OER (Open Educational Resources) references and ZTC (Zero Textbook Costs).

  • Teaching global competence through storytelling

  • Engaging students with global education in online courses
