Join us for a talk with Xu Jilin, Professor of History at East China Normal University on October 14, 2026.

Over the past four decades, China has witnessed a shift in its public sphere, transitioning from a period of flourishing to one of decline. Conversely, the realms of culture, arts, and private life have remained highly vibrant. Furthermore, the center stage of social media has shifted from intellectuals to internet celebrities. What does this mean for China’s future?

Xu Jilin is a professor in the Department of History at East China Normal University, and Deputy Director of the Institute for Modern Chinese Thought and Culture (a Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Sciences under the Ministry of Education).
