Virtual Language Exchange: A Foundation for International Understanding Through Students (FIUTS) Program

June 18, 2020

About the program

FIUTS is a nonprofit organization based on the campus of the University of Washington and is focused on promoting international understanding and community. FIUTS envisions a global community, tied to the Pacific Northwest, in which people are connected through friendship, mutual respect, and a commitment to international understanding. Click here to learn more about FIUTS.

FIUTS Virtual Language Exchange is a free program open to everyone that provides participants with opportunities to practice languages, make new friends, and engage in cultural exchange.

FIUTS recognizes that many of our students and community members speak multiple languages. These languages are learned and practiced all around the world, in traditional and non-traditional settings, as native and non-native languages, and with diverse accents and vocabulary.

To honor the diversity of our community and the varying dialects they speak, FIUTS matches language exchange partners based on reported language proficiency. The program’s purpose is to allow participants to engage in speaking practice, rather than formal instruction.

Due to COVID-19 considerations, all exchanges must be virtual.
