It is a landmark achievement shaped by countless advocates and legal pioneers. Join us for an inspiring talk with former legislator Mei-Nu Yu, who played a pivotal role in the legislative journey toward marriage equality. We will also hear from former Constitutional Court Justice Remington Huang, who will offer rare insights into the historic ruling that changed Taiwan forever. Don\u2019t miss this opportunity to revisit a defining chapter of Taiwan\u2019s human rights movement.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Speakers<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>YU Mei-Nu \u5c24\u7f8e\u5973<\/strong>\u00a0is a renowned Taiwanese lawyer, feminist, and political figure. Yu has long been devoted to advancing women\u2019s rights, gender equality, and human rights legislation. She played a pivotal role in the legislative process for marriage equality in Taiwan. In 2016, she successfully pushed for the preliminary review of amendments to the Civil Code\u2019s family section, and in 2019, she supported the passage of the Act for Implementation of Judicial Yuan Interpretation No. 748, which legalized same-sex marriage\u2014making Taiwan the first country in Asia to do so. Her efforts earned her nicknames in the LGBTQ+ community such as \u201cGoddess (or Mazu) of Marriage Equality.\u201d In 2020, she was awarded the Chevalier de l\u2019Ordre national du M\u00e9rite (Knight of the National Order of Merit) by the French government for her contributions to human rights and gender equality.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Remington HUANG\u00a0\u9ec3\u745e\u660e<\/strong> is a former Justice of Taiwan\u2019s Constitutional Court (Judicial Yuan) with extensive experience in the judiciary, having previously served as a judge in both the Taiwan High Court and the Supreme Court. Although he recused himself from the 2017 Constitutional Court case on same-sex marriage due to his relationship with then-Legislator Mei-Nu Yu, he possesses deep insight into the Court\u2019s operations and constitutional interpretation processes.
