For a complete description of our benefits for this position, please visit our website, click <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/benefits\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/02\/benefits-professional-staff-librarians-academic-contract-covered-exempt-20240419-a11y.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Program Operations Specialist position is essential for enhancing the visibility, performance, and funding of the Korean Studies, China Studies, Taiwan Studies, JSIS Japan Studies, and the East Asia Center programs through effective administration, outreach, and grant management.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Administration:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Work with faculty chairs and managing director to set annual goals and establish benchmarks for East Asia Programs and Center performance.<br \/>\n\u2022 Coordinate communications and manage performance reports and budgets with relevant US and East Asian government agencies.<br \/>\n\u2022 Reconcile grant budgets, gift budgets, and revenue accounts and track monthly expenditures and budget changes.<br \/>\n\u2022 Work with faculty chairs and Office of Academic Services to handle program inquiries from prospective and admitted graduate students.<br \/>\n\u2022 Manage all aspects of the Visiting Faculty Program, including obtaining J-1 visas for visiting faculty and keeping them apprised of all relevant talks and activities offered by the East Asia Programs, Center, and JSIS.<br \/>\n\u2022 Actively seek support for and administer student fellowships across the East Asia Programs.<br \/>\n\u2022 Recruit, train, and supervise student employees.<br \/>\n\u2022 Coordinate Fellowships, eligibility, rules, timing, funding, paying, and award process.<br \/>\n\u2022 Prepare &amp; submit reader\/grader contracts.<br \/>\n\u2022 Update graduate student handbook for publication by JSIS Office of Academic Services.<br \/>\n\u2022 Participate in JSIS graduate student orientation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Public Outreach &amp; Events:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Create instructional, research, and educational programs that maximize the East Asia Programs and Center\u2019s resources while meeting the stated goals of program grants.<br \/>\n\u2022 Organize workshops for the general public and K-12 and community college educators.<br \/>\n\u2022 Develop and oversee coordination of regular lectures and symposiums throughout the year.<br \/>\n\u2022 Collaborate with off-campus community partners on joint activities for public and business outreach events and programs.<br \/>\n\u2022 Attend community events to establish connections between the East Asian community and East Asian Studies at UW.<br \/>\n\u2022 Serve on campus, local, and national boards related to the centers&#8217; core functions to determine the centers&#8217; role in on-campus and off-campus partnerships.<br \/>\n\u2022 Develop and oversee the publication of all printed and electronic material connected to the East Asia Programs and Center and oversee website updates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grant Writing:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Work with faculty chairs and managing director to seek, apply for and administer grants to fund the East Asia Programs and Centers\u2019 activities.<br \/>\n\u2022 Assist managing director in the preparation of Department of Education Title VI grant applications, as needed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Bachelor\u2019s degree in East Asian Studies, Korean Studies, International Studies, or other related discipline and two or more years of experience providing relevant or related experience.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education\/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license\/certification\/registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional Requirements:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Excellent writing, copy editing, and basic research skills.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with diverse groups.<br \/>\n\u2022 Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to establish priorities.<br \/>\n\u2022 Excellent written and oral communication skills, including working effectively with presenters, program participants, and UW faculty and staff.<br \/>\n\u2022 Excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and desktop publishing, with an aptitude for learning additional software programs as needed.<br \/>\n\u2022 Significant experience interacting with East Asian community.<br \/>\n\u2022 Flexible schedule to allow for occasional attendance at evening and weekend events.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DESIRED REQUIREMENTS<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Master\u2019s degree in East Asian Studies, International Studies, or other related discipline.<br \/>\n\u2022 Extensive knowledge of and experience studying or working in East Asia.<br \/>\n\u2022 Expertise in Korean or other East Asian languages and the ability to speak fluently and read at least one East Asian Language.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT<\/strong><br \/>\nThe application process for UW positions may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
