{"id":5133,"date":"2025-07-31T21:07:24","date_gmt":"2025-07-31T21:07:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/taiwan\/?page_id=5133"},"modified":"2025-08-04T22:08:35","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T22:08:35","slug":"workshop-new-directions-in-taiwan-history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/taiwan\/workshop-new-directions-in-taiwan-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Workshop: New Directions in Taiwan History"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>New Directions in Taiwan History &#8211; Taiwan at the Center and at the Margins<\/strong><\/h1>\n<h2><strong>February 26-27, 2026<br \/>\nUniversity of Washington, Seattle<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hosted by the UW Taiwan Studies Program<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This two-day workshop will bring together scholars working across the temporal range of Taiwan history to share and discuss works-in-progress and findings from their research projects.\u00a0 We especially welcome contributions on legal, environmental, Qing, gender, maritime, and Indigenous histories.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Participants will be asked to pre-circulate a draft dissertation chapter, journal article, or book manuscript chapter. Senior scholars will comment on pre-circulated writing.\u00a0 All participants will be expected to read and engage in the workshop discussions. Proposed works in progress should not have been published or be under consideration for publication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Local accommodation (up to three nights), economy class airfare or ground transportation, and meals will be provided for all participants. PhD student participants need to be ABD (advanced to PhD candidacy).\u00a0 Past participants may submit proposals for new research, but new applicants will be prioritized.\u00a0 We especially welcome proposals from Ph.D. candidates, postdoctoral fellows, and contingent scholars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is the second workshop of a three-part series.
