<\/a>Southeast Asia and Taiwan Conference:
\nPolitics, Aesthetics, Indigeneity<\/h2>\n

Southeast Asia and Taiwan have been linked for millennia by migrations of indigenous peoples and maritime trade. Today, both regions have rising economies and are embroiled within global political conflicts and geopolitical transformations. Across Southeast Asia and Taiwan, shared histories of authoritarianism, cultures of resistance, configurations of identity, and practices of aesthetic production and reflection break down barriers and conventions which traditionally have located the two regions in different conceptual “areas.” This conference seeks to bring together scholars working on broad issues of politics, aesthetics, and indigeneity across Southeast Asia and Taiwan, historically and in the present, to examine shared material and political conditions and social imaginaries.<\/p>\n

This two-day conference is open to UW students, faculty, staff, and broader community.<\/p>\n
