{"id":1260,"date":"2020-02-25T21:50:32","date_gmt":"2020-02-25T21:50:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/taiwan\/?page_id=1260"},"modified":"2026-04-23T18:58:59","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T18:58:59","slug":"course-development-grants","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/taiwan\/resources\/for-faculty\/course-development-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"Course Development Grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Taiwan Studies Course Development Grants<\/h2>\n<h4><strong>UW Global<\/strong> is offering curriculum development grants including specifically for <b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Taiwan-Focused Projects.<\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Applicants proposing a <strong>humanities or social science course on Taiwan<\/strong> that includes\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2018Taiwan\u2019 in the course title<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0and has a substantial focus on Taiwan within a comparative, regional, or global framework are encouraged to apply.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">This focus should be made explicit in the course description provided in the application.\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Applicants who intend to teach the supported course again in the future, ideally with a permanent course number from their home department, will be prioritized.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">After the course is taught, recipients\u00a0are required to\u00a0provide the syllabus, course enrollment numbers, course evaluation quotes, and a brief write-up to feature on the UW Taiwan Studies Program website to the UW Taiwan Studies Program.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">See <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/globalaffairs\/gif\/teachingcurriculum\/\">UW Global Teaching and Curriculum<\/a><\/strong> for full information.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Accepting applications begins annually on December 1, and the deadline is January 31 the following year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>UW Taiwan Studies Program<\/strong> Course Development Grants<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Courses must feature \u201cTaiwan\u201d in the course title. Preference in funding will be given to courses that have a greater focus on Taiwan. The Taiwan Studies Program welcomes global, transnational, comparative, or area studies approaches from social science, humanities and other disciplines.<\/li>\n<li>Offered to UW faculty only<\/li>\n<li>$2,000: Courses centered on Taiwan<\/li>\n<li>$1,000: Courses that include Taiwan in a comparative or global perspective<\/li>\n<li>The course should be added to the official Time Schedule and withered (temporarily cross-listed) with the Jackson School of International Studies. The Time Schedule and MyPlan course title need to include &#8220;Taiwan<i>.&#8221; <\/i><\/li>\n<li>Funds may be disbursed as summer salary or research funds. Disbursal will occur the summer <em>after<\/em> the course is taught, and is contingent upon receiving the syllabus, course enrollment numbers, course evaluation quotes, and a short write-up to feature on the Taiwan Studies Program website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Priority<\/em> deadline for courses planned for the following academic year is typically on January 31. However, applications will be accepted after that date.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Submit the following to <a href=\"mailto:taiwanst@uw.edu\">taiwanst@uw.edu<\/a>\u00a0to apply:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Your name, email address, and department<br \/>\n2. Title and home department of proposed course<br \/>\n3. When the course will be offered in the following academic year<br \/>\n4.
