On June 2nd, 2022,\u00a0SAC affiliated faculty Professor of Architecture Vikram Prakash participated in a panel for the Museum of Modern Art’s exhibition,\u00a0The Project of Independence: Architectures of Decolonization in South Asia, 1947\u20131985<\/em><\/a>\u00a0. Following the end of British rule in 1947\u201348, architects in the territories of today\u2019s India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka embraced the language of modernism as a means of proclaiming their autonomy, articulating their national identities, and enacting social progress.\u00a0This lecture and discussion examined South Asia\u2019s post-Independence era beyond political histories and as lived memories, probing the meaning, in a subcontinent-wide context, of being \u201cat home in modern architecture.\u201d<\/p>\n

Professor Prakash was joined by\u00a0Katherine Dunham, Sanjay Kanvinde, and Nondita Correa Mehrotra, as well as moderator\u00a0Martino Stierli, Philip Johnson Chief Curator of Architecture and Design.
