Radhika Govindrajan, director of the South Asia Center and associate professor at the Jackson School and Department of Anthropology, has been awarded an\u00a0<\/span>Honorable Mention in the 2021 Diana Forsythe Prize<\/a>\u00a0for her book, \u201c<\/span>Animal Intimacies:\u00a0Interspecies Relatedness in India\u2019s Central Himalayas<\/a>\u201d (University of Chicago Press, 2018) by the\u00a0American Anthropological Association.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnimal Intimacies\u201d recounts the varying relationships people have with animals \u2014 as companions, as sources of food and as performers of work \u2014 and addresses not only why those relationships exist, but also why they\u2019re significant.<\/p>\n

The Forsythe prize is given to the best books in the feminist anthropology of science by\u00a0the Committee for Science, Technology, and Computing of the American Anthropological Association.\u00a0The award will be presented to Govindrajan in late November during the Association\u2019s annual conference.<\/p>\n

The book has already received numerous awards. In spring 2017, \u201cAnimal Intimacies\u201d won the Edward Cameron Dimock, Jr., Prize in the Indian Humanities from the\u00a0American Institute of Indian Studies<\/a>; two articles that were modified into book chapters also were recognized by the American Anthropological Association.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
