Our own Anand Yang, Golub Professor of International Studies and Chair of the UW Department of History, authored four articles on global Asia that appeared in the Seattle Times over the course of four weeks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/services.nwsource.com\/nie\/times\/pdfs\/4-30-15%20-%20NIE%20Jackson%20School_Article%201.pdf\">Early Modern Empires of Asia<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/services.nwsource.com\/nie\/times\/pdfs\/5-7-15%20-%20NIE%20Jackson%20School_Article%202.pdf\">Premodern Empires of Asia<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/services.nwsource.com\/nie\/times\/pdfs\/5-14-15%20-%20NIE%20Jackson%20School_Article%203.pdf\">Colonialism and Imperialism in Asia<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/services.nwsource.com\/nie\/times\/pdfs\/5-21-15%20-%20NIE%20Jackson%20School_Article%204.pdf\">China\/Asia Rules the World<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Over the course of the evening Yang provided an overview of modern Asian histories. Jackson School alumna Tese Wintz Neighbor presented a new set of classroom materials designed specifically for the workshop. Educators from elementary school to high school had the opportunity to test run one activity, in which they considered the opportunity to invite prominent figures from Asian history for a dinner party: Benazir Bhutto (Pakistan), Nursultan Nazarbayev (Kazakhstan), Mao Zedong (China), and Kartini (Indonesia) were the potential guests.<\/p>\n<p>The UW South Asia Center, Southeast Asia Center, East Asia Center, the Center for Global Studies, the Ellison Center for Russian, East European and Central Asian Studies presented \u201cGlobal Asia: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow\u201d in collaboration with The Seattle Times.
