Matthew Mosca is currently assistant professor of Chinese history at the College of William &amp; Mary. He previously held research fellowships at the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Hong Kong, and the Institute for Advanced Study. His first book, <em>From Frontier Policy to Foreign Policy: The Question of India and the Transformation of Geopolitics in Qing China<\/em>, was published in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3724\" src=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/southasia\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2016\/05\/sheffield2.jpg\" alt=\"Sheffield\" width=\"160\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/southasia\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2016\/05\/sheffield2.jpg 160w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/southasia\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2016\/05\/sheffield2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/southasia\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2016\/05\/sheffield2-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 160px) 100vw, 160px\" \/>Daniel Sheffield<\/strong> will be joining the department as assistant professor for the history of the Islamic world before 1850. He is currently a Link-Cotsen Postdoctoral Fellow in the Princeton University Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts and lecturer in the Department of Near Eastern Studies. He received a Ph.D. in Near Eastern languages and civilizations from Harvard University in 2012. He is currently completing a book manuscript entitled <em>Cosmopolitan Zarathustras: Religion, Translation, and Prophethood in Iran and South Asia<\/em>.
