About
Rita Bashaw (she/her) is the FLAS Fellowship Manager at the University of Washington Jackson School of International Studies (UW JSIS) Office of Academic Services (OAS). Here’s how to say her name.
Here at JSIS OAS, I… manage the UW Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) program. FLAS provides tuition and stipend benefits to students studying designated foreign languages in combination with area studies or international aspects of professional studies. FLAS is funded by the U.S. Department of Education under provisions of Title VI of the Higher Education Act (HEA).
I like thinking about and studying… too many things to mention!
My first year in college… I developed a stubborn case of shin splits. I went out for crew, which involves a fair amount of running, but I hadn’t done much running up until that time. Ouch!
Fun facts: I like to point out I rowed with the Cal boat in the Windemere Cup/Opening Day Regatta in Montlake Cut (won’t say the year) and guess who won?! All in good fun; I’m glad to be at the UW, supporting fellow Huskies in reaching their academic and professional goals.
