On September 14, the Middle East Center hosted a half-day workshop that explored ways to integrate music and song into any Arabic curriculum. People from a two-state area attended the workshop, presented in Arabic by Hussein Elkhafaifi, Associate Professor, Department of Near Eastern Languages & Civilization. Professor Elkhafaifi is a leader in the development of Arabic proficiency teaching and training.
Participants learned to:
• Integrate Arabic songs into their own curriculum
• Build on the work begun through songs to include other skills
• Incorporate entertainment into lessons, which might otherwise be dry and routine
• Cultivate students’ interest in mastering Arabic and increase enrollment through dynamic and animated instruction
Professor Elkhafaifi will be teaching a course on “Arabic Through Song” at the University of Washington, Seattle in Autumn Quarter 2017. More information about the course can be found here.
