Recent US Air Strikes in Syria: A Brief Legal, Military, and Political Analysis

Jackson School Senior Lecturer, Frederick (Rick) Lorenz gave a presentation on Monday, May 7, 2018 that explored  several questions surrounding recent air strikes in Syria, including: What was the legal basis for the strikes?  Did they violate international law?  And were they part of a long term US political strategy?

Rick Lorenz served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 27 years as a judge advocate. He has also served as a senior legal adviser for the United Nations in Somalia, a legal adviser to NATO in Bosnia, and a UN legal affairs officer in Kosovo. His current courses include International Humanitarian Law, and International Law and the Use of Force, and Water and Security in the Middle East.
