Meet MAAIS Candidate Betty Chella Nalungwe: Seeking to amplify her voice to protect the vulnerable

Betty has spent much of her career working for UN organizations in her native Zambia. Most recently, she served as Senior Communication Assistant for UNICEF. Before that, she worked with the U.S. Embassy in Lusaka, the American Institutes for Research, and the UN Development Programme. Betty chose the MAAIS program in order to gain the skills and knowledge needed to contribute to her country’s development agenda and to gain a seat at the table to advocate for women and children. She understands that when a humanitarian crisis hits, whether due to conflict, natural disaster or other causes, these are the populations that are the most vulnerable.  After graduation, Betty will return to UNICEF where she hopes to transition to working more closely with people in crisis through assignment to an emergency duty station.
