Palais Professor of Korean History.\u00a0She will receive her Ph.D. in Korean History from Stanford University with a dissertation on how the introduction of Christianity changed ritual practices in Korea during the early 20th century. She will begin teaching spring quarter 2020.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>New Associate Director<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1349 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/korea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2019\/06\/pic-271x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"271\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/korea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2019\/06\/pic-271x300.png 271w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/korea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2019\/06\/pic-375x415.png 375w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/korea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2019\/06\/pic.png 457w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 271px) 100vw, 271px\" \/>Marco Garcia is now Associate Director of the Center for Korea Studies Program. Marco was most recently an English language instructor at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, and prior to that was the Director of International Programs (and a Japanese language instructor) at Elms College in Chicopee, MA.\u00a0 He received his MA from the Korean Flagship Master\u2019s Program at the University of Hawaii, Manoa, in 2015. He has lived overseas for over 14 years, enjoys learning languages and can speak Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, German and Italian at varying levels.<\/p>\n<p>Marco&#8217;s appointment follows the retirement of Young Sook Lim, who for 14 years served as the first Associate Director of the Korea Center.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Towards the end of this academic year and the beginning of the next, Korea Studies is adding a few new faces to the program.
