New endowment and fundraising success from the local Korean communities

January 5, 2021

The CKS is very happy to share that a new endowment has been created for graduate students of the Korea Studies Program. The Nam Chu (Yang) Koh Endowment amounts to $315,240 and will be used to provide funding for PhD students in Korea Studies.

Also, the local Korean communities of Seattle and surrounding areas have come together to raise around $64,000 for the Center for Korea Studies. Along with former Consul General Hyung-jong Lee, a committee of members of the Korean community was able to raise the funds by reaching out to local members of the Korean community to surpass the initial goal of $50,000. Committee chairwoman Dr. Myongrae Park and community leaders (Susan Lee, Jung Sook Vaughn, Young Min Kim and Michael Park) played integral parts in organizing the fundraiser, along with other community members who contributed to the success of the fundraiser. The same committee has also committed to fundraising every year for Korea Studies at UW.

The CKS is very grateful to have received such generous support from the local Korean community during this time.
