Walsh, who has been with the Japan Studies Program for over 40 years, was the sole person selected for the category of Distinguished Staff for Career Achievement from across the UW\u2019s three campuses.<\/p>\n<p>Walsh was recognized for the University\u2019s highest honor for her \u201c\u2026remarkable leadership; editorial expertise; and commitment to ensuring diversity, equity and inclusion across the Journal\u2019s editorial board has been instrumental in\u00a0\u00a0<em>Journal of Japanese Studie<\/em>s to its current place of prominence in elevating the field of Japanese Studies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walsh graduated from the UW Jackson School with a bachelor\u2019s degree in 1983 and a master\u2019s degree in international studies with a focus on Japan in 1989.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/japan\/japan-studies-newsletters\/autumn-2023-newsletter\/#section2\">Learn more about the award nomination of Martha<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We invite you to celebrate her at the Awards of Excellence ceremony at 3:30 p.m. on June 6 in Meany Hall, Seattle campus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Martha Walsh, Managing Editor,\u00a0Journal of Japanese Studies, and Senior Program Associate,\u00a0Japan Studies Program\u00a0at the University of Washington has been named the recipient of a\u00a0UW Award of Excellence 2024.
