Open House \/ Grand Re-opening Celebration:<\/b>\u00a0The library completed the reading room renovation late last year, and it was the first ever renovation since the library moved to Gowen Hall in 1976. To celebrate this milestone, and to introduce the library to those who have not been here yet, we are hosting a grand re-opening of the Tateuchi East Asia Library (TEAL)\u00a0on February 21, 2024. We\u2019ll enjoy a festive program together, celebrating rich East Asian cultures, our special collections and support for East Asian scholarship. The event is open to all, so please feel free to share with your colleagues, friends, and family.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Tateuchi East Asian Library<\/a>\u00a0is one of North America\u2019s premiere libraries of its kind. But the space on the third floor of Gowen Hall was long in need of a refresh, said Hyokyoung Yi, the library\u2019s interim director and the Korean Studies Librarian. After the library was named in\u00a02020 for Atsuhiko and Ina Goodwin Tateuchi<\/a>, UW alumni whose namesake foundation donated to the library, plans were made to renovate. The library closed for about a year, then reopened quietly last summer and on Wednesday will host a reopening celebration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
