The Wilson Center interviews Dr. Kenneth Pyle on August 14th. As one of America’s preeminent scholars of Japan, Dr. Pyle has spent his entire career examining Japan’s emergence from destruction and defeat to becoming an economic powerhouse and a vibrant democracy. In this interview, Dr. Pyle examines how Japan was able to recover from the war, the role of the U.S.-Japan alliance, and how the constitution that the United States imposed on Japan continues to shape Tokyo’s approach to foreign affairs, its own security, and the rise of China.
