In 2025, the UW Center for Human Rights is proud to present fellowships to seven students carrying out human rights research and projects.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Hanady<\/p>\n

HANADY SHAQUR<\/strong>, ABE OSHEROFF AND GUNNEL CLARK FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n

Hanady Shaqur is an undergraduate student studying medical anthropology. She is the co-president of Zaytoon UW, where she works to advocate for the rights and educational opportunities of displaced Gazan students.<\/p>\n

\"Justin<\/p>\n

JUSTIN HIRSCH<\/strong>, DR. LISA SABLE BROWN FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n

Justin Hirsch is a first-year Master\u2019s student in the School of Marine and Environmental Affairs. His research focuses on labor and environmental policy impacting migrant fishers aboard American fishing vessels.<\/p>\n

\"Rebecca<\/p>\n

REBECCA ZARAGOZA<\/strong><\/span>, DR. LISA SABLE BROWN FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n

Rebecca Zaragoza is Masters student studying urban design and planning. Her research focuses on the design and policy frameworks of mobile home parks in the Eastern Coachella Valley, Polanco Parks. She examines how these spaces function, their socio-spatial dynamics, and how they might inform more sustainable and equitable housing solutions for migrant and low-income workers.<\/p>\n

\"Alyson<\/p>\n

ALYSON BRADLEY<\/strong><\/span>, DR. LISA SABLE BROWN FELLOW<\/a> and PETER MACK AND JAMIE MAYERFELD FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

Alyson Bradley is a PhD student at the Jackson School of International Studies, her research examines how colonial legacies and racial formations shape legal and bureaucratic approaches to juvenile care in Peru.<\/p>\n

\"Paul<\/p>\n

PAUL JASON PEREZ<\/strong><\/span>, PETER MACK AND JAMIE MAYERFELD FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n

Paul Jason Perez is a PhD student in the Information School, researching\u00a0the role of archival practices in documenting state violence and ensuring historical accountability, focusing on the archives of the Martial Law era of President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. in the Philippines.<\/p>\n

\"Rachel<\/p>\n

RACHEL KETOLA<\/strong>, JENNIFER CALDWELL FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n

Rachel Ketola is a first-year Master\u2019s student at the Jackson School of International Studies, researching the ways in which the Trump Administration in the U.S. is collaborating with the Bukele Administration in El Salvador, a country currently operating under a \u201cState of Exception\u201d that allows the security forces to criminalize and incarcerate its citizens without due process.<\/p>\n

KAYA SURACI<\/strong>, BEN LINDER JUSTICE FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n

Kaya Suraci is an undergraduate student at the UW majoring in history and Spanish with a focus on Indigenous history throughout Latin America. She began working with the Center for Human Rights in June 2024 as a student researcher for the Unfinished Sentences project where she has helped review and catalogue countless government documents obtained by the Center under public records law.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
