Funds from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/dr-lisa-sable-brown-fund\/\">Lisa Sable Brown award<\/a>\u00a0will allow Itza to conduct an investigation with Colombian youth on the themes of personal, communal, and institutional histories; and it will also serve as an exploratory study on the creation, use, and preservation of records by and about youth, in particular those of underrepresented populations.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7505 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Nicole-Grabiel-150x150.jpeg\" alt=\"Nicole Grabiel\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Nicole-Grabiel-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Nicole-Grabiel-50x50.jpeg 50w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Nicole-Grabiel-300x300.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><br \/>\nNicole Grabiel<\/strong> received the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/benjamin-linder-fund\/\">Benjamin Linder award.<\/a>\u00a0She is a junior at the UW double-majoring in history and global and regional studies. Nicole is working on an undergraduate thesis about the international dimensions of conflict in Central America.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7506 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Keira-Henson-scaled-e1691015162717-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Keira Henson\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><br \/>\nKeira Henson<\/strong>\u00a0is a student, majoring in Law, Societies, and Justice. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/abe-osheroff-and-gunnel-clark-fund\/\">Abe Osheroff and Gunnel Clark award<\/a>\u00a0will help further her work with La Resistencia to provide support and advocacy for immigrants detained at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7507 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Julie-Feng-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Julie Feng\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Julie-Feng-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Julie-Feng-50x50.jpg 50w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Julie-Feng-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><br \/>\nJulie Feng<\/strong> is a PhD student in Communication and has been working with a coalition that includes many labor and community organizations committed to building an unemployment program for undocumented workers in Washington state. Julie will use proceeds from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/abe-osheroff-and-gunnel-clark-fund\/\">Abe Osheroff and Gunnel Clark award<\/a>\u00a0to provide stipends to compensate workers for advocacy efforts.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7508 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Destiny-Moreno-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Destiny Moreno\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Destiny-Moreno-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Destiny-Moreno-50x50.jpg 50w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Destiny-Moreno-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><br \/>\nDestiny Moreno<\/strong> is a first-year student at UW School of Law. Destiny will use funds from the <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/jennifer-caldwell-fund\/\">Jennifer Caldwell Fellowship<\/a> to continue work on surveillance, policing, and inequality in the City of Seattle. This project is an outgrowth of our Center\u2019s previous work on automated license plate readers and the threat they pose to migrant justice and abortion rights in the state of Washington.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7509 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Jihyeon-Bae-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Jihyeon Bae\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Jihyeon-Bae-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Jihyeon-Bae-50x50.jpg 50w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Jihyeon-Bae-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><br \/>\nJihyeon Bae<\/strong> is a Ph.D. student in Political Science, writing a dissertation about authoritarian governments\u2019 use of international law. This year, Jihyeon will use funds from the <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/peter-mack-and-jamie-mayerfeld-fund\/\">Peter Mack and Jamie Mayerfeld award<\/a> to administer a two-country survey that will enable her to compare how international laws deployed by democratic vs. autocratic regimes can shape public attitudes around the treatment of refugees.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7510 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Allison-Goldberg-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Allison Goldberg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Allison-Goldberg-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Allison-Goldberg-50x50.jpg 50w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/08\/Allison-Goldberg-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><br \/>\nAllison Goldberg<\/strong> is a Ph.D. student in Sociology, studying the emergence and impact of the progressive prosecutor movement as a key tactic in the effort to dismantle mass incarceration.
