{"id":6417,"date":"2021-07-16T15:55:21","date_gmt":"2021-07-16T22:55:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/?p=6417"},"modified":"2021-07-21T15:37:53","modified_gmt":"2021-07-21T22:37:53","slug":"2021-fellowship-recipients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/2021\/07\/16\/2021-fellowship-recipients\/","title":{"rendered":"2021 Fellowship Recipients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UW Center for Human Rights is proud to present 11 fellowships to students carrying out human rights work!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALEC FISHER<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/abe-osheroff-and-gunnel-clark-fund\/\">ABE OSHEROFF AND GUNNEL CLARK FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>PhD student in English, is campaigning to demand community-based mental health care as an alternative to incarceration for psychiatric patients in the state of Washington.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>MARIA CHACON AND JOHANNA MORA<\/strong>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/abe-osheroff-and-gunnel-clark-fund\/\">ABE OSHEROFF AND GUNNEL CLARK FELLOWS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Both are students at the UW Law School who are working with Global Rights Advocacy, an NGO spearheading efforts to support immigrant rights in Washington state, and particularly supporting the effort to close the Northwest Detention Center\u00a0 in Tacoma.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>SOPHIA MOSER<\/strong>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/abe-osheroff-and-gunnel-clark-fund\/\">ABE OSHEROFF AND GUNNEL CLARK FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Undergraduate student in Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies will be working in El Salvador to gather the stories of life after deportation for use in advocacy for more just and human US immigration policy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLARA LEMME RIBEIRO<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/dr-lisa-sable-brown-fund\/\">DR. LISA SABLE BROWN FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>PhD student in Geography who will be conducting research with garment industry sweatshop workers in Brazil.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>MICHAEL BENNETT<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/dr-lisa-sable-brown-fund\/\">DR. LISA SABLE BROWN FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>PhD student in Music is writing a dissertation about the way in which broadway musicals&#8217; depiction of arrest and imprisonment, have played a role in the public discourse around mass incarceration in the United States.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>JIHYEON BAE<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/peter-mack-and-jamie-mayerfeld-fund\/\">PETER MACK AND JAMIE MAYERFELD FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>PhD student in Political Science who will be examining how Southeast Asian states selectively invoke international law to conceal the responsibilities they have to refugees of the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALLISON GOLDBERG<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/peter-mack-and-jamie-mayerfeld-fund\/\">PETER MACK AND JAMIE MAYERFELD FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>PhD student in Sociology and is writing about mutual aid as a means of organizing for political and economic rights in New York city.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>YINGYI WANG<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/peter-mack-and-jamie-mayerfeld-fund\/\">PETER MACK AND JAMIE MAYERFELD FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>PhD student in Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies is writing about NGOs in China which are dedicated to gender equality and LGBT rights.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>MARIA VIGNAU LORIA<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/jennifer-caldwell-fund\/\">JENNIFER CALDWELL FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>PhD student in Sociology work with the Center for Human Rights on statistical analysis of immigrant detention in the contemporary United States.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>MAYA GREEN<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/benjamin-linder-fund\/\">BEN LINDER JUSTICE FELLOW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Undergraduate in the Henry M.
