Latinx defendants in Pierce County are much more likely than any other group to be subject to detainer requests by ICE. Community advocates including representatives of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nwirp.org\">Northwest Immigrant Rights Project<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nwdcresistance.org\">Northwest Detention Center Resistance<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu-wa.org\/\">ACLU of Washington<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/defensenet.org\">Washington Defender Association<\/a> will share their comments on the UWCHR\u2019s research.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Panel discussion: &#8220;Unequal Justice: Immigrant Rights, Detention, and Advocacy in Pierce County&#8221;<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>6pm &#8211; 7:30pm Weds., Jan. 30, UW Tacoma Carwein Auditorium\u00a0(1st floor of Keystone Building, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tacoma.uw.edu\/campus-map\/campus-map\">KEY 102<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>As the site of one of the largest detention facilities on the West Coast, Pierce County and the City of Tacoma are at the center of ongoing efforts to document and challenge the systemic injustices inflicted on immigrant and undocumented communities. Panelists will present research on the impacts of federal immigration enforcement in Washington State and nationwide; and policy recommendations which cities and states can adopt to limit their involvement in immigration enforcement activities.
