Read their reports about their research at the links below!<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"fbPhotoSnowliftCaption\" class=\"fbPhotosPhotoCaption\"><span class=\"hasCaption\"><strong>Sarah Dreier<\/strong> received the 2017 <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/peter-mack-and-jamie-mayerfeld-fund\/\">Peter Mack and Jamie Mayerfeld Award<\/a>. She will conduct research for her political science PhD thesis, which examines what drives support for or rejection of <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/2017\/10\/12\/sarah-dreier-2017-mack-and-mayerfeld\/\">women\u2019s rights and LGBTQ rights within Christian churches in sub-Saharan Africa<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"fbPhotoSnowliftCaption\" class=\"fbPhotosPhotoCaption\"><span class=\"hasCaption\"><strong>Andre Stephens<\/strong> received the 2017 <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/jennifer-caldwell-fund\/\">Jennifer Caldwell Award<\/a>. He will conduct fieldwork for his sociology PhD on how international governance institutions operate in his native Jamaica.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"fbPhotoSnowliftCaption\" class=\"fbPhotosPhotoCaption\"><span class=\"hasCaption\"><strong>Kelsey Armstrong-Hahn<\/strong> received the 2017 <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/abe-osheroff-and-gunnel-clark-fund\/\">Abe Osheroff and Gunnel Clark Award<\/a>. A student at UW School of Law, she will use the award for a project with the International Human Rights Clinic, <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/2017\/10\/12\/kelsey-armstrong-2017-osheroff-clark\/\">researching conditions in immigrant detention centers in the US<\/a> in preparation for a report that she will present at a hearing of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights in Mexico City in September 2017.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"fbPhotoSnowliftCaption\" class=\"fbPhotosPhotoCaption\"><span class=\"hasCaption\"><strong>Angie Tamayo Montero<\/strong> received the 2017 <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/benjamin-linder-fund\/\">Benjamin Linder Award<\/a>. An undergraduate psychology major, Angie will use the award to fund travel to El Salvador to continue her work on <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/2017\/10\/12\/angie-tamayo-2017-linder\/\">psycho-social support methodologies for survivors of trauma caused by forced disappearance<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"fbPhotoSnowliftTagList\" class=\"fbPhotoTagList\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Patrick Thomsen<\/strong> received the 2017 <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/funds\/dr-lisa-sable-brown-fund\/\">Lisa Sable Brown Award<\/a>. A student of the Jackson School of International Studies, Patrick will conduct research in Korea for his\u00a0dissertation which seeks to understand <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/2017\/10\/12\/patrick-thomsen-2017-dr-lisa-sable-brown\/\">how human rights norms affect non-Western male sexual minorities<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UWCHR is proud to present five fellowships to students for their\u00a0human rights work.
