{"id":1080,"date":"2014-12-18T23:37:59","date_gmt":"2014-12-18T23:37:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/humanrights.washington.edu\/?p=1080"},"modified":"2017-02-16T22:12:11","modified_gmt":"2017-02-16T22:12:11","slug":"uw-center-human-rights-quarterly-newsletter-fall-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/2014\/12\/18\/uw-center-human-rights-quarterly-newsletter-fall-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"UW Center for Human Rights \u2013 Quarterly Newsletter \u2013 Fall 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Human Rights in Action: Introducing the Work of 2014 UW CHR Student Fellows<\/h2>\n<p>Every year, the UW CHR provides financial support for hands-on human rights initiatives by UW students, thanks to the generosity of our donors to two endowed funds, the<a href=\"http:\/\/humanrights.washington.edu\/resources\/osheroff-clark-fund\/\"> Abe Osheroff and Gunnel Clark Endowed Human Rights Fund for Students<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/humanrights.washington.edu\/resources\/jennifer-caldwell-fund\/\">Jennifer Caldwell Endowed Fund in Human Rights<\/a>. In 2014, four student projects received support; their projects are profiled below. Proposals for support in 2015 will be due April 3, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The GROW team traveled from the University of Washington to India this past summer to work with the MINDS Foundation, an NGO in Vadodara, Gujarat focused on eliminating mental illness stigma and providing care for patients in rural villages. Specifically, the GROW team explored the villages of Hareshwar, Kunvarpura, and Kasumbia and constructed detailed maps of the villages, which allow MINDS staff to interact with patients in a more efficient manner via the maps. The team also worked on various other projects, including patient narratives, where they listened to every patient&#8217;s story and record their experiences.
