He has performed throughout the United States and Europe, as well as Australia and the former Soviet Union. His prizes include first place in the New Orleans, Young Keyboard Artists and Pacific International piano competitions. He is the author most recently of <i><a title=\"The Promise of Human Rights: A conversation with Prof. Jamie Mayerfeld\" href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/2016\/11\/30\/the-promise-of-human-rights\/\">The Promise of Human Rights<\/a><\/i> (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2016). In this book, he develops an account of constitutional democracy as a cooperative project enlisting both domestic and international guardians to strengthen the protection of human rights.<\/p>\n<h2>Fund Eligibility<\/h2>\n<p><strong>The application period for the 2026 funding cycle is now closed. The next student funding application period will be open February &#8211; March, 2027.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Peter Mack and Jamie Mayerfeld Fund provides financial resources to benefit graduate students to study and\/or conduct research about human rights. <strong>In 2026, we had approximately $4,300 to distribute.<\/strong> Available funds may be issued in a single award or split between multiple awardees. The number of awards and amounts will vary depending on the number and quality of applications.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Currently enrolled<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">graduate students at UW Seattle, Bothell, and Tacoma are eligible to apply.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The award may\u00a0be used towards tuition, research, travel, books, materials, or equipment.<\/li>\n<li>US citizenship or permanent resident status is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">NOT REQUIRED<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Fund Priority:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The growth of the UW Center for Human Rights has led to applications from diverse disciplines and various stages of graduate careers. To streamline the selection process, the UWCHR Steering Committee has voted to established a set of criteria and priorities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The following are not requirements; they are <em>priorities<\/em>. This means the selection committee could still issue an award to an outstanding candidate whose work doesn\u2019t align with all these criteria.
