In April 2016, the Center for Global Studies co-hosted the \u00a0inaugural Arctic and International Relations Institute as part of the Arctic and International Relations Initiative. The event was hosted alongside the International Relations Initiative and held in collaboration with\u00a0Trent University, Ontario and the World Policy Institute, New York.<\/p>\n
The Institute included a two-day workshop hosted at the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. titled “One Arctic.”\u00a0Seven\u00a0International Policy Institute Arctic Fellows (UW students conducting policy research on the Arctic) joined over 50 scholars, practitioners, and government officials to discuss the 20-year anniversary of the founding of the Arctic Council, the current U.S. Chairmanship, and the considerable global attention given to the Arctic today. The video offers refreshing insights into the challenges that lay ahead for the people living in the Arctic, and what Arctic change means for the rest of the world. Rosemarie Kuptana, former president of the Inuit Circumpolar Council, and Jim Gamble, executive director of Aleut International Association, offer indigenous perspectives. They are followed in conversation with Susan Harper, Canada\u2019s Senior Arctic Official at the Arctic Council, and David Kennedy, Senior Arctic Advisor at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
