Join UWISC for a talk by Dr. Elena Shih<\/strong><\/a> on\u00a0“The Humanitarian Development Nexus: Anti-Trafficking in the Asia Pacific.”<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Elena\u00a0Shih<\/span>\u00a0is the Manning Assistant Professor of American Studies and Ethnic Studies at Brown University, where she directs a human trafficking research cluster through the Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice. Her book-in-progress, under advanced contract with UC Press, is a global ethnography of the transnational social movement to combat trafficking in China, Thailand, and the US. Her recently published New York Times op-ed, \u201cHow to Protect Massage Workers,\u201d shares research conducted as a core organizer of Red Canary Song, a grassroots coalition of sex workers, migrant workers, and allies working in Flushing, Queens.<\/p>\n

\n

The University of Washington International Security Colloquium (UWISC)<\/strong> is the only academic colloquium devoted to international security in the Pacific Northwest. The Colloquium is interdisciplinary and open to the public and sponsors seven to nine domestic and international speakers, as well as speakers from UW faculty and students.<\/p>\n
