Create the World\u2019s Fastest Book: Manifold Workshop
\n<\/b><\/u><\/u>Wednesday, November 18th, 1:30-3:00pm<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Learn how to create the world’s fastest book using the\u00a0Manifold\u00a0<\/a>digital book publishing platform! During this workshop, we’ll introduce you to the Manifold platform. You’ll walk away from this workshop with a public domain text of your choice loaded into Manifold. We’ll also explore Manifold’s annotation capabilities and opportunities for integrating multi-media into your text.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

This workshop is available to current UW students, faculty and staff only based on Manifold’s\u00a0Terms of Use<\/a>. The workshop will be held fully online.<\/p>\n

Virtual Scholars’ Studio – Six graduate student\u00a0research presentations
\n<\/strong>Thursday, November 19th, 4 – 5:30 pm.<\/p>\n

Hosted by the UW Libraries Research Commons and Core Programs in the Graduate School, Scholars\u2019 Studio is a quarterly event featuring up to 10 short presentations (5 minutes each) by UW graduate students and postdocs. Each quarter we invite proposals for talks on a theme, in order to encourage the cross-disciplinary sharing of research. The event is fast paced and fun. It includes a Q&A with presenters, and a reception. Presenters receive feedback on their presentations through feedback forms distributed to audience members. Scholars\u2019 Studio is an excellent opportunity for grad students looking to make connections and build presentation skills. The fall 2020 Scholars’ Studio event will be a virtual event.<\/p>\n

Better than Best Practices: Inclusive Data Visualization
\n<\/b><\/u><\/u>Thursday, November 19th,\u00a01:30-3:00pm<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Data visualization design \u201cbest practices” often do not prioritize (or outright reject) efforts to be inclusive. This workshop will establish new “best practices” and provide an opportunity to test them out in a visualization. Data visualization experience is not required, though some familiarity with accessing and using spreadsheet software may be helpful. This workshop will not be recorded.<\/p>\n

Digital Scholarship for East Asian Studies Community Coffee Hour
\n<\/b><\/u><\/u>Monday, November 23rd, 3:30-5:00pm<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

The Tateuchi East Asia Library will be hosting a Digital Scholarship for East Asian Studies Community Coffee Hour on the fourth Monday of the first two months of each quarter (in 2020-2021 AY: October 26, November 23, January 25, February 22, April 26, May 24), 3:30 – 5:00 pm. The purpose of this community gathering is to share ongoing digital scholarship projects, research ideas, questions, and advice among ourselves.<\/p>\n

If you would like to share your own digital scholarship project (at any stage of planning or completion), introduce new tools or methodologies you are exploring, or lead a discussion on readings, please\u00a0sign up<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Your segment can take different forms; examples might be a research presentation with slides, a demonstration of research techniques, or an informal discussion of readings or ideas. If we’re able to accommodate your segment, we will contact you to discuss the timing and details.
