Husky Global Affairs is a student-run policy research organization at the University of Washington. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n

\u201cOur mission is to encourage students to conduct in-depth research on problems facing society at a local, national, and <\/span>global<\/span> level. Research projects, and essay submissions culminate in the <\/span>Husky<\/span> Global<\/span> Affairs<\/span> Journal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

With the support of the Center for Global Studies, Husky Global Affairs launched their Autumn 2017 Journal. <\/span><\/p>\n

Robert Walatka, a Junior majoring in Finance and Marketing at the University of Washington and the vice president of Husky Global Affairs, helped shape HGA into what it is today because of his desire to do more meaningful research in academia and the real world. <\/span><\/p>\n

Walatka said Husky Global Affairs gave him a platform to conduct the research he was interested in, talk to people about it and share. He said his goal for the members, himself included, was to take people interested in research and show why it is important beyond academia – to take research as a hobby to a passion. <\/span><\/p>\n

Yean Kim is one of those members at just 13 years old. Kim started as a full time undergraduate student at the University of Washington in the fall of 2017. He is currently a junior majoring in Economics and minoring in International Studies. <\/span><\/p>\n

Kim first became interested in Husky Global Affairs at an RSO fair and has since published a research paper in the Autumn 2017 Journal. Participating in the meetings, presenting his own research and getting feedback has improved his research and presentation skills, according to Kim. <\/span><\/p>\n

Richard Perry, the president and one of the founding members of Husky Global Affairs, envisions a farther reaching future for HGA. It may be an organization just at the University of Washington now, but Perry hopes to make larger connections – reaching other hubs of academia and even working professionally with other organizations. The Center for Global Studies looks forward to the potential Husky Global Affairs has. <\/span><\/p>\n
