Center for Global Studies Winding Down Operations<\/h2>\n

This past year, the U.S. Department of Education informed the Center for Global Studies and partner Title VI National Resource Centers across the country that the final year of funding for the 2021-2026 grant cycle would be cut. While it is possible that some form of Department of Education funding may be restored in future, the cuts represent a major challenge to the National Resource Centers and associated Foreign Language and Area Studies programs. 2025 Marcy Migdal Fellows<\/h2>\n

Each year, two or three UW students are selected to receive an award from the Marcy Migdal Migdal Fund for Educational Equality. The Marcy Migdal Fund supports exceptional students engaged in activities aimed at enhancing access to education for vulnerable students, either locally or throughout the world, and helping them succeed in their education. The World (Cup) Comes to Seattle: Spring Speaker series<\/h2>\n

The World Cup is coming to Seattle! To help prepare the Seattle community, the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies and UW Global Sport Lab are offering a speaker series that brings experts to discuss the geopolitical, local, and sporting implications of the 2026 FIFA Men\u2019s World Cup in Seattle. This past summer, the Center for Global Studies hosted the 2025 Community College Master Teacher Institute (CCMTI) on the UW campus. The two day workshop brought community college educators from across the region and country to learn about the cultural, social, and economic impact of global sport. Due to recent federal funding cuts, the 2025 CCMTI will be the last such workshop offered for the foreseeable future.
