Please contact your advisors Joni Marts (jmarts@uw.edu<\/a>)\u00a0or Erica Coleman (ecoleman@uw.edu<\/a>)for more information.<\/p>\n Challenges to European Unity: COVID, Migration, Refugees, History, and Politics <\/b><\/span>COVID crisis revealed that the European Union lacks an effective <\/span>public health<\/span> policy<\/span> that<\/span> can<\/span> be<\/span> applied<\/span> across<\/span> all<\/span> the<\/span> member<\/span> countries.<\/span> The<\/span> longer<\/span>-term<\/span> crisis of migration has also led countries to seek separate solutions putting pressure on European institutions. The program will consist of four courses that examine the challenges Europe <\/span>is <\/span>facing in the wake of economic and public health crises and <\/span>their <\/span>impact on EU. <\/span><\/p>\n There will be two Task<\/span> Forces <\/span>and two seminars. Students will choose one of the Task Forces and take the two seminars. The two Task Forces will focus on the <\/span>Response of <\/b><\/span>European\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/b>countries<\/b><\/span> <\/b>to<\/b><\/span> <\/b>COVID<\/b><\/span> <\/b>and<\/b><\/span> <\/b>the<\/b><\/span> <\/b>Post-COVID<\/b><\/span> <\/b>Migration\/Refugee<\/b><\/span> <\/b>Policies<\/b><\/span> <\/b>for<\/b><\/span> the <\/b><\/span>EU<\/b><\/span> respectively. The seminars will study Migration\/Refugee Issues and the Interaction between Italian Cities and the Middle East and Asia. There are many NGO\u2019s and other organizations in Rome that have been active in migration and refugee issues in Rome. Students will have<\/span> opportunities<\/span> to<\/span> visit<\/span> these.<\/span> We will also take advantage of the presence of Italian government and EU offices and scholars in Italian universities.
