Policies of the Trump administration in Washington and political upheavals in Europe are creating uncertainty over Transatlantic political, security, and economic relations. These developments will help shape the path of US world leadership in the 21st<\/sup>\u00a0century and are important to all Americans.<\/p>\n

The world is in a transformative phase, with the Western-led global system increasingly under challenge from both internal and external forces. Populism and protectionism are growing in the West, while other powers such as China and Russia are bidding for greater world roles. There is a view in Europe that if the US were to recede from global leadership, a stronger Europe would somehow have to try to take its place.<\/p>\n

This panel discussion will feature three distinguished speakers:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"Reginald Dale<\/strong> is a senior fellow and director of the Transatlantic Media Network (TMN), which moved to the Atlantic Council, a prominent Washington DC think tank, in January 2017. The TMN, which runs the Transatlantic Media Fellowship program, was previously housed at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), also in Washington, DC. He previously spent most of his career as a leading international journalist. He was a senior editor, syndicated columnist, and foreign correspondent for the Financial Times and the International Herald Tribune, with postings in London, Paris, Brussels, and Washington DC. He has reported from many other world regions, including the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Canada, and Mexico. He has specialized in transatlantic and European affairs, the European Union, NATO, US foreign policy, trade negotiations, US-UK relations, world summitry, globalization and its effects, and international security strategy.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/strong>Frida Wallnor<\/strong> is currently touring the US as an Atlantic Council Transatlantic Media Fellow. She has been an editorial writer at the Swedish business daily Dagens Industri in Stockholm, specializing in international affairs and security policy, since 2016. She was previously a global political analyst at the Japanese investment bank Nomura International in London and Swedbank Robur Asset Management in Stockholm. She has a background in the Swedish armed forces, with a master’s degree in political sciences which included six months at the Swedish Embassy in Washington, DC. Her fellowship research is focusing on US security policy and the future of the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n

\"SabineSabine Lang<\/strong>\u00a0is the Director of the Center for European Studies, Associate Professor of International and European Studies at the Jackson School of International Studies, and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Departments of Political Science and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. She works in comparative politics with a focus on civil society, the public sphere, nongovernmental sector, and gender politics. Her current research focuses on transnational advocacy and multilevel governance in the E.U.<\/p>\n
