The Center of West European Studies is pleased to announce the 2017-2018 UW Faculty Travel Grants for West European Studies.

The UW Center for West European Studies provides funding resources for UW faculty engaged in research, teaching or programs related to West European or EU Studies. The center is currently accepting proposals from UW faculty for domestic and international travel funding related to West European Studies research, academic conferences, and program building taking place during the 2017-18 academic year and summer 2018. Additional details are, as follows:

Domestic Travel
Domestic travel awards provide up to $500 to support UW faculty participation in academic conferences in the United States. These awards are designed to allow faculty to present their current research related to the area of West European Studies at major professional conferences around the country.

Funding requests should be submitted via e-mail to cweseuc@uw.edu, and include the following:

  • Name and dates of the conference (with a link to the conference website)
  • Title and/or topic for the conference presentation being given
  • An explanation of how participation in this event will support the faculty’s research and professional development.

Please also attach a current CV.

International Travel
International travel awards provide up to $1,500 for airfare and travel costs. Awards are intended to support broader program development, and so should not focus exclusively on conference presentations or research but incorporate additional elements with broader impact on university and research linkages.

Funding requests should be submitted via e-mail to cweseuc@uw.edu, and include the following:

  • Name and dates of the activities being conducted
  • Title and/or topic for any conference presentation being given
  • An explanation of how participation in this event will support the faculty’s research and professional development
  • An explanation of how the trip will support broader program development goals such as study abroad opportunities or research linkages.

Please also attach a current CV.

Funding decisions for CWES faculty awards will be announced on a rolling basis via email to applicants. Faculty should refrain from confirming conference participation or travel arrangements until award decisions have been announced. Please note that international travel on the CWES grant require US Department of Education program officer approval. This approval process can take up to 30 days and require travelers to travel on a US or EU-flagged airline.
