{"id":536,"date":"2017-03-14T18:33:33","date_gmt":"2017-03-14T18:33:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/maaissite\/?page_id=536"},"modified":"2023-02-12T23:47:29","modified_gmt":"2023-02-12T23:47:29","slug":"iscne","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/emis\/overview\/capstone-research\/iscne\/","title":{"rendered":"The International Strategic Crisis Negotiation Exercise (ISCNE)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The International Strategic Crisis Negotiation Exercise (ISCNE) is an annual event jointly facilitated by the Executive MIS program and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csl.army.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Center for Strategic Leadership<\/a> at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carlisle.army.mil\/\">U.S. Army War College.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The exercise is offered as spring course, <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/maais\/overview\/courses\/descriptions\/#549\">JSIS 549: Crisis Negotiation<\/a>, and is open to graduate and undergraduate students, as well as non-matriculated students (individuals not currently seeking a degree).\u00a0Each year, the EMIS program and the U.S. Army War College team select a real-world crisis scenario that students role-play, holding strategic negotiations over an intense two-day period. Participants act as members of diplomatic teams charged by their governments with negotiating a solution advantageous to their national interests.<\/p>\n<p>A senior government official is brought in to mediate the discussions, and each team is coached and assisted by a high-level mentor \u2014 typically a UW faculty member or a regional subject matter expert drawn from the business, government or military sector. In advance of the exercise, students receive background briefings from experts on the conflict and participate in workshops designed to refine their negotiation and crisis decision-making proficiency.<\/p>\n<p>ISCNE provides students with an opportunity to learn and apply\u00a0skills in\u00a0<strong>regional situation analysis,\u00a0negotiation techniques,\u00a0strategic thinking,\u00a0leadership,\u00a0planning\u00a0and evaluation, crisis management and decision-making, team-building\u00a0<\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0time management.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The International Strategic Crisis Negotiation Exercise (ISCNE) is an annual event jointly facilitated by the Executive MIS program and the Center for Strategic Leadership at the U.S. Army War College.
