{"id":2809,"date":"2014-12-15T14:23:57","date_gmt":"2014-12-15T22:23:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ellisoncenter.washington.edu\/?p=2809"},"modified":"2016-09-21T20:33:03","modified_gmt":"2016-09-21T20:33:03","slug":"alumni-aseees-awards-prestigious-prizes-to-ellison-center-uw-history-alumni","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/ellisoncenter\/news\/alumni-aseees-awards-prestigious-prizes-to-ellison-center-uw-history-alumni\/","title":{"rendered":"ALUMNI | ASEEES awards prestigious prize to Ellison Center alumnus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Sarah McPhee<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Ellison Center is pleased to announce that graduate alumnus Taylor Zajicek was awarded the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aseees.org\/programs\/aseees-prizes\/graduate-student-essay-prize\">ASEEES Graduate Student Essay Prize<\/a>\u00a0for an outstanding essay by a graduate student in Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies for his paper \u201cModern Friendship: The \u2018New Turkey\u2019 and Soviet Cultural Diplomacy, 1933-1934\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2811\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 130px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2811\" src=\"http:\/\/ellisoncenter.washington.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/taylor_fulbright-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"taylor_fulbright\" width=\"130\" height=\"196\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Taylor is currently a Fulbright English teacher in Turkey.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>With over 3,000 members, the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies supports teaching, research, and publication\u00a0relating to the study of the post-Soviet region through its\u00a0Slavic Review, Annual Convention, book prizes, and organizational newsletter.<\/p>\n<p>The ASEEES Annual Convention is an international forum for professionals, and graduate students, both domestic and international, to network and exchange new research.\u00a0Over 2,000 individuals attend every year. Additionally, ASEEES recognizes outstanding scholarship in the field by awarding prizes to works of merit. ASEEES awards nine book prizes, a dissertation prize, and a graduate essay prize, of which Taylor was the recipient.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Taylor&#8217;s paper was also awarded the annual Daniel C. Waugh Prize for the best Ellison Center master\u2019s thesis, submitted in 2014.
