\"\"On April 26, 2018, Timothy Snyder, the Richard C. Levin Professor of History at Yale University and bestselling author, spoke at the University of Washington on his book On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century<\/em>, which reads as a survival manual for present times in view of the past with instruction on how to recognize and resist powerful regimes of repression in a world where, Snyder argues, liberal democracy is increasing being threatened – again.<\/p>\n

The event was sponsored by The Henry M. Jackson Foundation along with the Henry M.
\nJackson School of International Studies, Center for Global Studies, Ellison Center for Russian, East European and Central Asian Studies, Center for West European Studies, Stroum Center for Jewish Studies, and the Foster School’s Global Business Center at the University of Washington. There was much excitement surrounding the talk, and it was heavily attended by members of the University and the public, selling out of tickets long before the day of the event. To allow people to still participate, an overflow room was set up<\/p>\n

with a live stream in Kane Hall and questions from that audience were taken to the main\u00a0room to be answered by Snyder. The live stream was\u00a0also available online to interested viewers,\u00a0increasing the impact of this event. In addition to On Tyranny<\/em>, published in 2017, Timothy Snyder was also available after the event to sign his new book, The Road to Unfreedom<\/em><\/a>, released to critical acclaim in 2018.<\/p>\n
