Why did Trump have warm words for Vladimir Putin in 2015 and 2016?<\/p>\n<p>Scott Radnitz, Director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/ellisoncenter\/\">Ellison Center<\/a> for Russian, East European, and Central Asian Studies at the University of Washington, discussed these issues and remarked on the\u00a0Trump administration&#8217;s policy toward Russia as part of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/news\/2017\/03\/23\/jackson-school-to-offer-lectures-for-students-on-trump-in-the-world\/\">&#8220;Trump in the World&#8221; series<\/a>\u00a0hosted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/\">Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 10-lecture series examines the impact of the 2016 election on countries and regions around the world. He also spoke about how US policy toward the former Soviet\u00a0republics since the end of communism has affected thinking among policymakers in Russia and how that plays out in international politics today.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/ellisoncenter\/people\/scott-radnitz\/\"><strong>Scott Radnitz<\/strong><\/a> is\u00a0an Associate Professor in the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies and Director of the Ellison Center for Russian, East European, and Central Asian Studies at the University of Washington.
