Former U.S. Ambassador to NATO and current U.S. Department of State Foreign Affairs Policy Board Member Nicholas Burns invoked the vision of Senator Henry M. Jackson that America’s strength and defense should be preserved and spoke highly of\u00a0entrepreneurship\u00a0in the Pacific Northwest during a lecture at the UW that drew\u00a0more than 250 students. Burns spoke about global challenges that the next U.S. president will face, including violence in the Middle East and Russia’s threat\u00a0to the independence of other states. He also expressed optimism for opportunities to alleviate global poverty and advance global health initiatives.<\/p>\n
