This summer the <\/i>Ellison Center for Russian, East European and Central Asian Studies<\/i><\/a>, the <\/i>Center for West European Studies<\/i><\/a>, and the <\/i>Center for Global Studies<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>partnered for an <\/i>educator workshop<\/i><\/a>. The one-day event was designed to consider current electoral trends in Europe and Russia. More than 20 middle school, high school, and community college educators from around Washington learned about current electoral, economic, and multicultural issues facing Europe and Russia and equipped themselves with the tools necessary to teach these complicated and controversial subjects in their classrooms.<\/i><\/p>\n

Many of the day\u2019s talks were recorded for podcasting after the workshop.<\/i><\/p>\n

Anarchy in the UK? The Why, How and What’s Next of Brexit.<\/b><\/h3>\n

Phillip Shekleton is\u00a0a lecturer\u00a0at the Foster School of Business and the former Managing Director of the Center for West European Studies at the University of Washington. He spoke about the potential ramifications of “Brexit” and explored demographic information behind Britain’s vote to leave the European Union. He discussed the potential financial consequences and spoke about how the EU and the UK might find a way forward.<\/p>\n
