About the Speaker<\/strong><\/p>\n

Eliot Borenstein<\/strong> is Professor of Russian & Slavic Studies and Senior Academic Convenor for the Global Network at New York University. He is the author of\u00a0Men without Women: Masculinity and \u00a0Revolution in Russian Fiction, 1917-1929\u00a0<\/em>2001 (AATSEEL book prize), Overkill: Sex and Violence in Contemporary Russian Popular Culture\u00a0<\/em>(2008 AWSS book prize), Plots against Russia: Conspiracy and Fantasy after Socialism\u00a0<\/em>(2020 Wayne S. Vucinich brook prize and 2020 AATSEEL book prize),<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Pussy Riot: Speaking Punk to Power\u00a0<\/em>(Bloomsbury, 2020). \u00a0He has three books forthcoming:\u00a0Marvel Comics in the 1970s: The World Inside Your Head<\/em> (Cornell, 2022),\u00a0\u00a0Meanwhile, in Russia<\/em>\u2026:\u00a0Russian Internet Memes and Viral<\/em>\u00a0Video<\/em>\u00a0(Bloomsbury, 2022), and Soviet-Self-Hatred: The Secret Identities of Postsocialism<\/em> (Cornell, 2023). He is now writing\u00a0HBO\u2019s The Leftovers: Mourning and Melancholy on Premium Cable\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Unstuck in Time: On the Post-Soviet Uncanny<\/em>.
