This workshop utilized the\u00a0four-part Newspapers in Education series Global Asia: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow<\/em>, produced in conjunction with The Seattle Times<\/em>. The series includes articles on the vast empires that ruled Asia, the growing economies of the region and insights into what the future holds for this area of the world. The workshop featured\u00a0presentations by series author Dr. Anand Yang as well as an introduction to the curriculum guide which pairs with the articles by guide author Tese Wintz Neighbor<\/a>. This workshop was\u00a0intended for educators of grades 8 and higher.<\/p>\n

NIE article series<\/h3>\n

Designed with high school readers in mind, each article in the online newspaper series entitled Global Asia: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow<\/em>, focuses on the history and rise and fall of the empires of Asia. The series touches on East Asia, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and South Asia as well as the interactions between the various parts of Asia. The curriculum guide provides a lesson plan for each article that includes activities to do with students before, during and after reading the featured article. Together, the articles and accompanying lessons take students on an exploration of historical and contemporary issues in several Asian countries and regions and asks students to look at the issues from multiple perspectives and investigate the complexities and challenges of Asia’s rapidly growing societies and economies.<\/p>\n
