The first hour of this <strong>online program<\/strong>\u00a0consisted of a presentation by Professor Bachman, and the second hour was dedicated to questions and comments from participants. Participants also received a <strong>free copy of the book\u00a0<\/strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/books\/chinese-communist-party\/ACDE7A4F414A8857DFAE7C13B1DBD7BB#fndtn-information\">The Chinese Communist Party: \u00a0A Century in 10 Lives<\/a>, <\/em>by\u00a0<span class=\"comma-after-except-last\">Timothy Cheek,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"comma-after-except-last\">Klaus M\u00fchlhahn\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"comma-after-except-last\">Hans Van de Ven.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/people\/david-bachman\/\">David Bachman<\/a> is the Henry M. Jackson Professor of International Studies at the Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington (Seattle) where he has taught since 1991.\u00a0 He is the author <em>Chen Yun and the Chinese Political System<\/em>, <em>Bureaucracy, Economy, and Leadership in China:\u00a0 The Institutional Origins of the Great Leap Forward, <\/em>and co-editor (with Dali L. Yang) of <em>Yan Jiaqi and China\u2019s Struggle for Democracy.\u00a0 <\/em>He is currently working on a book on China\u2019s defense industrialization.\u00a0 His Ph.D. is from Stanford University, and he has taught at Stanford and Princeton University prior to his appointment at the University of Washington.<\/p>\n<p>This program was sponsored by the East Asia Resource Center (EARC) in the Henry M.
