{"id":3458,"date":"2020-05-13T21:26:25","date_gmt":"2020-05-13T21:26:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/earc\/?p=3458"},"modified":"2021-03-02T18:09:21","modified_gmt":"2021-03-02T18:09:21","slug":"internationalize-your-history-and-current-issues-curricula-webinar-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/earc\/internationalize-your-history-and-current-issues-curricula-webinar-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Internationalize Your History and Current Issues Curricula &#8211; Webinar series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">The Brown University <a title=\"https:\/\/www.choices.edu\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.choices.edu\/\">Choices Program<\/a>, with support from four <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/research\/\">National Resource Centers<\/a> at the University of Washington, is hosting a series of <strong>free webinars<\/strong> for Washington high school teachers on the following units.\u00a0The East Asia Resource Center c0-sponsored the first session, which focused on the history of U.S. relations with China, but we recommend the entire series.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><a title=\"https:\/\/www.choices.edu\/curriculum-unit\/china-world-stage-weighing-u-s-response\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.choices.edu\/curriculum-unit\/china-world-stage-weighing-u-s-response\/\">China on the World Stage: Weighing the U.S. Response<br \/>\n<\/a>Tuesday, May 19, 5-6pm PST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>Participants were introduced to a unit which explored the history of U.S. relations with China and considered the implications of China\u2019s economic growth, societal transformation, and increasing international role.<\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Other events in this series:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.choices.edu\/curriculum-unit\/united-states-afghanistan\/\">The United States in Afghanistan<br \/>\n<\/a>Wednesday, May 27, 5-6pm PST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>Participants will be introduced to a unit which explores the history, culture, and geography of Afghanistan, including the arrival of the Taliban and al Qaeda and the U.S. role there since 2001.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.choices.edu\/curriculum-unit\/confronting-genocide-never\/\">Confronting Genocide: Never Again?<br \/>\n<\/a>Tuesday, June 9, 5-6pm PST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>Participants will be introduced to a unit which explores the evolution of the international community&#8217;s response to genocide and examine how the U.S. has responded to six cases of genocide.<\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Choices Program draws on scholarship from Brown University to produce innovative curricula and videos that make contested international issues accessible, engaging, and relevant to secondary school audiences.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Supported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/global\/\">Center for Global Studies<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/eacenter\/\">East Asia Center<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/southasia\/\">South Asia Center<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/seac\/\">Southeast Asia Center<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/\">Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies<\/a> at the University of Washington, these units will help you make the transition to online schooling.<\/p>\n<h3>Program benefits<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Up to 30 participants per webinar will receive a free two-year digital edition license of the featured Choices curriculum unit. To be eligible for this opportunity, teachers must submit a short implementation plan after participating in the webinar (only one free unit per teacher will be awarded).
