This program was an online discussion of the book<\/span>\u00a0Convenience Store Woman<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>a novel by the best-selling Japanese author Sayaka Murata.<\/p>\n

This brilliant, quirky, sweet gem of a book transported participants into the life of Keiko, a long-term convenience store employee. Perhaps Pulitzer Prize winning author Viet Thanh Nguyen described it best: \u201cA darkly comic, deeply unsettling examination of contemporary life, of alienation, of capitalism, of identity, of conformity. We\u2019ve all been to this convenience store, whether it\u2019s in Japan or somewhere else.\u201d<\/p>\n
